During the year, my job is to:
- Help students learn about and understand themselves and others
- Talk with students and listen carefully to what they say
- Help students work through concerns about themselves, their families, their friends, or school
- Help students learn to make good decisions and/or get along better with others
- Help students understand and manage difficult emotions, including sadness, nervousness, anger, and fear
- Work with parents/guardians, school staff, and others to make students' school years the best they can be!
School Counselors are for everyone!!!
I will have contact with every child this year! I teach "Life Skills" lessons in every classroom throughout the year. In addition I may meet with your child in a small group based on a parent/teacher request or individually based on a student/parent/teacher request. Contact me if you or your child has a concern and we can address the concern together!
i can't do it alone!
YOU are the expert on your child. I need your input to identify the best way to support them during their school day and hope we can work together so that you can continue what we are working on into the evening. When home and school work together, amazing things can happen!.
LIfe Skills lessons: What in the world do I teach?!
Please look through the grade level lesson handouts to find out what your child is learning about in Life Skills classes. At all levels, students learn about respect, bucketfilling, communication, friendship, bullying, diversity, personal safety, and "drugs" (medication, tobacco, and alcohol).
Communication is confidential
Students need to be able to trust that the things they share will not be used to get them in trouble or make their worries, fears, anxieties, or problems worse. Please know that I will contact parents/guardians immediately if any concerns come up or if there is anything that you should know. I will ask the students permission to talk with you. If I feel there is a situation in which parents MUST be told due to behavior or a safety issue, I will inform the students that I will be contacting their parents/guardians. Many students contact me to talk about friendships or age-expected conflicts. These are normal and unless there are any threats or ongoing problems, parents will not be contacted.
