feeling safe at school
We are talking about how important it is for all kids to feel safe at school. For many of us, rules are a little different between home and school. Things that might be okay at home (like playing with nerf guns, perfecting our best Power Ranger moves, wrestling, or "killing" the bad guys in video games) are NOT okay at school. Sometimes kids do things or say things that have innocent intentions but scare or hurt others nonetheless. Today we talked about how important it is to make sure we are not using words like "kill" or "die," talking about or playing with pretend weapons (including our fingers in the shape of weapons, making toys in the shape of weapons, or drawing weapons), or playing fighting games at school. If we are aware that these things are happening, it is our job to tell a safe adult immediately. We know that these are "right now" problems and are NOT tattling!
