feelings
Sometimes our feelings are so big and strong that they kind of take over our brain.. They can make it really hard to learn and work at school. We learned that identifying our feelings, responding to them, and controlling our body and breathing will allow us to get back to our frontal lobe and our number one job: being the best student we can be!
After Reading the book Glad Monster Sad Monster by Ed Emberley, we identified which feeling sometimes gets in the way and makes it hard for us to learn at school.
You can follow up at home by recognizing and labeling your child's emotions, especially when they are interrupting your child's ability to complete a task or follow a direction. You can ask them which part of their brain is in charge and ask them what they need to do to get back to their frontal lobe. Also, you can give them suggestions for how they can handle anger and other strong emotions at home.
***In the future I will add a list of ideas that students created.***
